On our way home from Wales, we stopped over in Liverpool for 2 nights during the Beatles Week Festival. We were too stingy to stay in a hotel in Liverpool, therefore set up camp on a small farm campsite in Birkenhead (about 1 hour on the bus to Liverpool).
The Cavern Club started out in 1957 and its cellar became a popular music venue to many famous bands such as Gerry and the Pacemakers, Status Quo, Queen and of course, the Beatles. The Beatles started out at The Cavern Club and played many lunch time gig's before becoming famous.
Our first day in Liverpool was spent exploring Matthew's street bar's and experiencing the Beatles spirit. It felt like we were back in the 60's. We had a good too many toots and stumbled on publc transport back to our campsite.
On our second day, feeling slighly hungover, we met up with Bud's aunt and uncle - Claire and George. George was celebrating his 60th birthday on that day, and as he is a massive Beatles fan as well as a musician, he decided to celebrate it in Liverpool. They had made their trip over from America and had just finished a tour in Europe. We all went down to a local music festival in some park and later headed off to a surprise birthday dinner. By the time we left the restaurant, most of the music and bars had closed and so we headed home by taxi (which was a lot quicker and cheaper than the bus).
All in all it was a wonderful end to a wonderful holiday in Wales and Liverpool, and it is always great celebrating with family...
